The Advisory Board
… acts in an advisory capacity to the Incumbent and Churchwardens and makes recommendations on matters affecting the parish. A key activity of the board is to guide development of a parish vision, strategy and plans for ministries. The desire is for our Board to be a place of inspiring ideas, open discussion and wise planning. The Board is not responsible for routine church operations —it is responsible for encouraging the Gospel!
We envision St John the Evangelist as:
Followers of Jesus who are united in the Gospel message that calls us to service and worship.
Rooted in an Anglican tradition, we adapt to current needs.
We offer hospitality to all. All who join us have a place.
With God’s help, we collaborate, innovate and respectfully apply our resources to further God’s work in the world.
Our members are:
Sandra Hueston, People’s Warden
ROB SEGIN, Deputy people’S WARDEN
I became a member of St. Johns in 2021. This community has so much to offer. Things that stand out to me are Bible and Brew, Bible Study, EFM and the beautiful sermons. My favourite activity each year is the Christmas Eve Service. I was inspired to join advisory board to serve my community in a new way. I bring 19 years of corporate experience and 22 years of running my own Buisness, which focuses on helping special needs adult softball programs in Northumberland County.
Don Robertson, People’s Warden
Don is the Deputy Peoples Warden for St. John’s. He moved to Port Hope in 1987 and joined St John’s shortly after. After a career with Ontario Hydro, he is now retired and enjoying life with his family which now includes 7 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Susan Abell, Debuty Rector’s Warden
After twenty years in Port Hope, Susan now lives in Cobourg and continues to attend St. John's. She brings her experience and skills from a career in management and leadership in government and the not for profit sector. Since retirement she has worked for the diocese in a number of volunteer roles helping parishes in transition. She's pleased to join the wardens’ team at St. John's.
STEVE WRIGHT, Treasurer
I first started attending St. John’s in 2004 and became a regular member in 2011 when I moved to Port Hope full time. Over the years I’ve also been a sides person, a synod representative, and served as Warden. I have played one of the King’s in Christmas Story, but my favourite group by far is Treasure Trove. I’m looking forward to role as treasurer with advisory board.
Karen, Watson
Karen Watson married to Deacon Shane. Shane and I have 2 children. I am a local high school teacher who enjoys coaching and playing Badminton. I grew up in Port Hope and St. John’s is my home Parish.
Lynn Noseworthy, Secretary
I am originally from St. John’s, NL, and moved to Ontario in late August 1985 to attend the University of Toronto to study Public Health. I met my husband at the University of Toronto, and we eventually moved to Port Hope in the spring of 1992, shortly before the birth of our first child. We joined St. John’s Church in the summer of 1992. My husband grew up in Port Hope, and we moved here because it was halfway between our two jobs and my husband had family and friends here. My husband commuted west to Whitby, and I commuted east to Belleville. My husband has been in the Church Choir for many years and was a member of the Advisory Board and served as the Deputy People’s Warden/People’s Warden for four years. I had been a member of the Advisory Board in the past for a number of years and then more recently joined it again in April 2022. Our children have been involved with the Church as well, as Servers, and actors in the annual Christmas Story, and occasionally, our daughter played the piano at Church Services.
Martha Ciana, member at large
Martha Ciana has been a member at St. John’s since 2018. She enjoys volunteering where needed. She has helped on the Christmas Story, Vacation Bible School, Emmaus Cafe, and the Christmas Bazaar. Martha is currently a working Registered Massage Therapist and has owned her own business in downtown Port Hope for the last 19 years. She is also serving on the board of the Capitol Theatre and is currently a member of the St. John's Advisory Board.

the rev. shane watson, deacon
Shane Watson grew up in Ingersoll, Ontario, where his family attended St. James Anglican Church. He has been part of the St. John the Evangelist community in Port Hope since 1999 and served for many years as a lay reader before being ordained a deacon in 2023. Shane values the many opportunities at St. John’s to serve, learn, and grow in faith together, and especially enjoys the Bible & Brew discussions, Monday prayer gatherings, and the parish’s emerging housing ministry.
Shane is a Professional Engineer and Project Management Professional with experience leading complex projects and building collaborative teams. He brings broad leadership experience through community and national initiatives related to housing and homelessness, including the Green Wood Coalition and the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness Faith Network.
