St. John's Food Ministry is an active and integral part of our parish and community life. Volunteers are needed in all our undertakings, for instance to assist in preparing food, setting up and taking down tables, and cleaning up.

SUNDAY COFFEE HOUR: Please sign up online - If you don't sign up, there is no coffee hour for anyone. Coffee and tea (or in summer, cold drinks) are all that's needed. Snacks are a great addition but absolutely not required! Store-bought, home made, a little or a lot - your contributions are gratefully accepted! For more information, to volunteer baking or other snacks, or to help with put-away after, email Martha Ciana.

EMMAUS CAFE: Wednesdays from 10 am to 1 pm we host a free cafe for all community members in the lower Parish Hall. Drop in for snacks or a meal at no charge, cooked in our Certified Commercial kitchen. Everyone is welcome. This time in the week becomes a needed space for people to warm up in the winter or get out of the heat in the summer.

COMMUNITY DINNER: We host a community dinner at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. The meal is open to all who wish to attend from our parish as well as the larger Port Hope community.

MEALS for MOTEL RESIDENTS: We also prepare meals to be distributed by St. John's volunteers to individuals and families currently living in area motels as they search for permanent housing. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please email Penny Nutbrown.

St. John's is grateful to receive a grant from the Anglican Foundation of Canada to assist with the formal establishment of the Meals for Motel Residents Program, a part of both the Food and Housing Ministries. The funds from the Foundation will help with the costs of food, containers and transportation. Those temporarily sheltered in local motels will receive hot meals delivered to them, providing both food for the body and fellowship and community for the soul. We are most grateful to the AFC for this assistance.

A selection of delicious baked goods, part of what may be found at the Wednesday Emmaus Cafe.
